Changes in the way I blog.

I have to admit that I have been blogging for over 6 years now. I’ve had different types of blogs, mainly “life blogs“. Today, I maintain only this one. It’s not that the other blogs were not successful, they actually bore more traffic than the current blog, but as life blogging goes, too much information on oneself can be bad for the reputation. However, 2010 and especially the new version of WordPress are here to change the way I’m blogging on this site.

I never had real trouble in generating content. This blog’s main aim is to educate people on web design in Mauritius, so it’s never been aiming to become a high traffic one but I do take very minute care of it. Until now I had much problems in working in advance. Defining the editorial line was a day to day job. I read a lot on how to improve my blogging style mainly with great sites such as Nicholas Chardot’s sitesketch101. Though I won’t be doing all he recommends (e.g: I prefer generating content based posts rather than list posts), his idea-mapping techniques and tips to connect with visitors are great.

The greatest help I got though, and I’m currently testing it, actually comes from the WordPress core. I’ve been a WordPress user for more than 5 years now and one thing that always frustrated me was the use of scheduled posts. Over the past years, this option just ended with “missed schedule” errors such that I ended up not using it anymore. Then, surprise, this new version has this error corrected. And here it is. The mini-blogging part of this blog is now in full swing. The posts are written with practically a week’s advance and are published daily at 8 am (French time). Thanks to this new version, the way I blog is changing and I hope to reach new heights now.

Let’s talk about this…

Have you changed, are changing or planning to change your way of blogging? Are there any specific tools you use to emphasize on certain aspects of your blogging life? Do you blog on schedule or have a specific editorial line that respects a given timeline? Share your views with us!

I guess most bloggers start by life blogging but at one point or another life blogging can become a problem for oneself.
I tried a number of blogging styles life blogging, meme blogging, niche blogging … these are nice styles. However, i failed with traffic blog post because it deals with many technical stuff.
It all depends on the blogger perspective of blogging. This will lead to the choice of blogging style etc

Life blogging isn’t a problem in itself. I did get a lot of traffic on my personal blog. The problem crept up when my wife and I entered the education sector. The personal information was a bit of a trouble as from that day. So I ended up closing it.

As you rightly said, it all depends on the blogger’s motivations for the success of the blog. All in all, I ended up building a web design oriented blog with a piece of life blogging that just sets the pace I need for it.

By the way I really like this new style of asking some questions

Have you changed, are changing or planning to change your way of blogging?
I think it changed since last year. Planning to change from current one…well I do not think so because I do not have a specific blogging style. I tend to mix up. Most are news reporting, others are typical blog posts and others are sarcastic ones.

    Tools…? Wordpress.org lol :P

Mostly an editorial aim per day. But then if I am really busy with other work, there is Priscus and also you :D – Yes I do keep some schedule posts (time independent ones) in case all of us are very busy.

Thanks Avish. Actually, it’s not a new idea to lead to discussion but I’ve never really put it forward. This was Nicholas Chardot’s idea to put it in a box, a bit more pro-eminent and it does the job.

I remember your new blogging turn, nice way of making things turn round for you. And yeah, you did a good job recruiting a team for your blog. (Though I’m a bit absent for the time being).

On reading your comment, it seems to me that you build your most of your content on a daily basis then?

Yes daily basis. At times I am tired so I put only 1 or 2 and others when I am crazy it goes up to 10 a day lol.
