Google on user experience.

You might or might not like Google or adhere to all its monopoly, ramifications etc. but you have to admit it, with money and great developers the Googley thing does build killer apps. Over at the Official Google blog, the User Experience research group has set out some conventions on how Google designers and developers should work to build the “google branded” apps. Here are the 10 principles of Google design:

  1. Focus on people—their lives, their work, their dreams.
  2. Every millisecond counts.
  3. Simplicity is powerful.
  4. Engage beginners and attract experts.
  5. Dare to innovate.
  6. Design for the world.
  7. Plan for today’s and tomorrow’s business.
  8. Delight the eye without distracting the mind.
  9. Be worthy of people’s trust.
  10. Add a human touch.

This is the Google way and even if not everything can be put in any web app you design, these remain good guidelines to follow. At least, its good to see how others do it.
