Simple link styling using CSS.

Leave a comment on THE TEMPLATICA POST to participate to the Web Design Bureau end of year contest.
Links are the core elements of the Web. Hypertextuality is the basis of thhe web, the idea behind which the Web exists. It is the primary force driving the web. The whole definition and the concept are fully [...]

Get your pro website/blog free of charge.

Mauritian Web designers (and Mauritian budding/experienced bloggers), go pro while saving your money! One of the major hindrances web designers go through in Mauritius is the availability of ressources. Along with that comes the price to be paid for hosting and domain name. There has been a good discussion about domain names over at Islandcrisis [...]

Saas: your new business model?

Part of the wikipedia definition: “Using SaaS also can conceivably reduce that up-front expense of software purchases, through less costly, on-demand pricing. From the software vendor’s standpoint, SaaS has the attraction of providing stronger protection of its intellectual property and establishing an ongoing revenue stream. The SaaS software vendor may host the application on its own web server, or this function may be handled by a third-party application service provider (ASP). This way, end users may reduce their investment on server hardware too.”

This post explores Saas and tries to induce a reflexion of the future of Saas offers in the future in Mauritius.

Copywriting?

There has been a large number of website publications in Mauritius these last weeks along with disastrous concepts such as the L’Express website (discussed over here). One of the major problems that seem to be quite difficult to get over is copywriting.
As stated in my last post on Fantasmédia and in the discussion over the [...]

"Sex" is no longer a buzz word!

Remember that the word “sex” claimed to be the most searched word on the web for a long time? Well, times have changed and Web 2.0 have tanned its hide. I’ve been hanging around on Google Trends these days and just thought about how things could have changed around the world with the advent of [...]

Web standards for online businesses in Mauritius.

There’s a lot of talk over the advent of the Internet in Mauritius and l’Express even had an article on the new practices over the Internet especially concerning on line purchases, Internet banking or job seeking (though I doubt that it is a good thing to compare online shops in Mauritius with business models such [...]

Freelance management: the new black?

Talent is precious. So precious that it can get wasted. Mauritian web designers are talented people but nobody has actually taken hold of these talents in different fields and exploited them. A major of part of these qualities are used by foreign agencies working a lot in outsourcing and the Mauritian brains and talents are [...]

Barack Obama's sex videos.

A major part of the world is rejoicing over the new American President’s victory leading to a rendez-vous with American and World history. The first downside of all this is the other part of the world that is even more rejoicing over this victory is the hacker/spammer/malware provider world as the interest in Obama is [...]

Rollback on "cyber-island".

I was hanging around Digg this morning and came across this (really) old article concerning Mauritius and the term cyber-island. This will clear a lot of inconsistancies on the term used.

As you can see, this Digg article was published some 3 years ago. This was the original idea: setting wireless over the whole country. Today [...]

Yahoo Web Analytics in the race.

Most site owners need to know (an eventually live to the rythm of) the traffic their website is gaining. Some years back, this was not a prior element in terms of web usage especially when the Web 2.0 machine started going forward. Users such as bloggers were not interested in traffic because their main way [...]

The aliasing issue.

I was reading Anthony Zinni’s post on aliasing in design comps. This might seem to be a minor issue to many a mauritian, especially budding, designer but experience has proved that there is more to it. The main problem is that,as a designer replying to an offer, you don’t know what type of web/graphics habits [...]

Photoshop brushes, do's and don'ts.

I have been working on new website designs lately and found out that Photoshop brushes were a real help, being both time-saving and cost effective. This, actually, is not really new in terms of website development or in general photoshop usage terms. What is changing is the amount of ressources available online, be they paid [...]

Inspiration.

Being a webdesigner implies coming up with fresh ideas for one’s clients. This is the first challenge the designer has to take and solve. Added to that is the fact that, most of the time, the client has an idea of what s/he wants while not really knowing what s/he actually desires. This is where [...]

Don't use that TABLE.

Back in the 90s, the web was an anarchy concerning the way browsers worked or the way websites were coded. CSS barely had any value and Flash was believed to be the ultimate webdesign experience. Then ergonomics came into the picture. A person’s attention had to be captured in 7 seconds. The underlying idea was [...]

Sharing the experience.

Welcome to the Web Design Bureau of Mauritius, which might be called the wdbm. This is in no way a self -centered blog nor anything close to that. The aim of this blog is to give you tools and guidance to webdesigning or better/smarter webdesigning in the Mauritian context. Let me introduce and explain.
I am [...]
