Dana » Thanks for the input Dana. The idea behind the article was more a reflection on how Social Media would be influencing the way Google works. As a matter of fact, Google remains the core search engine in the world but let's admit it, it has REALLY changed over the past year. The main leaders to these changes are Social Media that Google makes use as staple information now.

It is interesting to find out whether Social Media can really replace the Google. Currently, My prime traffic source is still Google Search Engine.

I admit that the current state of indexation does not make it easy to sift through Twitter's results on Google but the major attraction of such tools is that, when you are part of a large community, you can get great resources and answers really quick. That said, it will be interesting only concerning your own profile.

The major difficulty with such tools is that the hashtag system has not really caught up. This is where things go wrong. If people did really use those and search engines started exploiting them, the whole face of search results would change.

Hey Sachin,
Nice article, it really got me thinking.
I don't think that social media will kill google but will complement it. Although I don't know what the future holds, I don't think I will be using twitter as a tool for searching about certain topics or products. I have tried that and wasn't very successful at finding what I wanted because I had to be sifting through low quality conversations. So I stick to google for certain types of searches.
Users spend more time on social media so getting new information through this medium is really quick and easy rather than solely optimizing for search and waiting for someone to search the specific keywords.
Twitter has been awesome especially when high profile users retweet my posts. The traffic just floods in.
The evolution of the web will lead to social media and traditional search methods merging to give even better results. I can't wait to see the end results.
